Milestone for Darlington station overhaul

One of the country’s most active contractors, Morgan Sindall Construction will be returning to the international property expo in 2025 as part of the growing Place North delegation.

The developer will build 141 homes on the 17-acre site in Morpeth, with construction to start at the beginning of 2025. 

While undoubtedly necessary, stricter rules around the safety of buildings could stymie the delivery of new homes in Northern cities if lengthy delays obtaining regulator sign-off go unchecked, according to industry figures across the North.

Work can now start on the site in Crook, where permission was granted for 256 homes in March this year.

Durham County Council is tipped to approve plans for the 7.5 acre plot in Coxhoe, which include the demolition of existing farm buildings. 

Along with Homes England, the developer has submitted plans for the arboretum section of the Darlington project, having received permission to build 750 homes in the initial phase of the scheme in May.

Construction is due to start in November on the 135-home scheme, which replaces the former Forest Estate in the village south of Sunderland.  

Contractor Bowmer + Kirkland has reached the highest point of construction on the organisation’s 463,000 sq ft regional centre, in the Pilgrim’s Quarter development.

The city council has rubber-stamped the procurement of a contractor to deliver a package of infrastructure improvements in Sheepfolds, a key area in the Riverside Sunderland regeneration masterplan.
