Sembcorp probes 1m sq ft Wilton International data centre

A review by the Tees Valley Combined Authority into the bodies charged with overseeing regeneration in the regions is due to start soon, with Mayor Ben Houchen saying that increased mayoral powers and the economic climate have ‘changed the context’ behind how they should operate.

Nestled away in the government’s new towns announcement was a separate £234m grant that will be split between seven Mayoral Combined Authorities including Tees Valley, Hull and East Yorkshire, and York and North Yorkshire.

In the North East, Newcastle neighbourhoods Fawdon South and Throckley & Newburn have been selected to receive £20m over the next 10 years to fund local improvement projects. 

The North East Combined Authority has pledged £27m of funding to progress delivery at the Aykley Heads innovation district, spearheaded by the council, Muse, and Durham University. 

Delivered by Building Design Northern in partnership with contractor Hewitson, steelworks are in place for five units, three of which have reached their full height at the 125,000 sq ft industrial development in Hendon, Sunderland. 

Looking to increase the amount of freight it can support, a 620,000 sq ft AirLink facility has been proposed for land to the south of the runway with an application expected imminently. 

Receiving £60,000 to further develop its bid, the local authorities will compete against the likes of Sheffield, Blackpool, and Portsmouth to claim a £10m prize.
