NECA to launch first Mayoral Development Zone

Hartlepool’s film and television production facilities have been given the go-ahead for a £33m expansion, which will include the construction of larger studios and repurposing of nine disused buildings into a production village. 

Scaffolding is being dismantled and attention will switch to the interior of the 112,000 sq ft facility, due to complete next spring. 

The former Blyth Power Station and Cobalt Park in North Tyneside made the cut, although Teesworks in Redcar was not included in the government’s announcement amid an ongoing rift with BP over its plans for a clean energy hydrogen plant on the site.

The internet giant is said to be behind the application for a 5m sq ft data centre on the former steel site, which was given the greenlight in July.

Durham approved the 89-bed mixed-use development, which will have  4,500 sq ft Asda Express store on the ground floor.
