VIDEO | The future of smart tech in offices

Managing the energy usage, visitor access, and lockers is just the start of what technology in smart buildings can do. Smart Spaces’ Dan Drogman and MEPC’s Dan Hyde discussed the future of the office and its relationship with technology in this video interview with Place North journalist Julia Hatmaker.

The conversation took place at MEPC’s 4 Angel Square in Manchester, a building that has embraced technology from Smart Spaces to improve the user experience for tenants. That move has already paid off for the developer, with the entirety of the 200,000 sq ft office block already let to Bank of New York Mellon Corporation in the largest city letting in the Big 6 over the past four years.

Drogman and Hyde delved into how tech can help not only with building management but in also fostering a sense of community among tenants. It can also be a crucial tool with helping acquire real-time data regarding how people use the building, where the paint points are, and what opportunities for improvement may be there.

“Buildings should continually improve themselves in their lifetimes,” Drogman said. “It’s essential for you to be able to learn how people use your building to continuously improve that.”
