Unanimous nod for Gleeson in Stanley

The developer has the all-clear to deliver 181 homes close to The Middles in the County Durham town.

At Durham County Council’s county planning meeting on 2 October, the committee voted as one to approve proposals for two-, three- and four-bedroomed housing. The project includes 18 bungalows.

Acer Architectural, Pegasus Group, Sirius, and Aimee Thompson Transport Planning are all on the professional team.

The application site consists of four adjoining parcels of land located at Ousterley Farm, to the south of Greylingstadt Terrace and Bloemfontein Primary School.

Gleeson’s site sits to the west of a residential area known as The Middles, which is turn is located between Craghead and South Stanley.

The site has an irregular shape extending to around 24 acres, comprising pasture fields and an equestrian stable block. To the west and south of the site is South Moor Golf Club.

According to the planning officers’ report, 10% of the homes will be classed as affordable. A new junction will be crated to access the site.

Chris Dodds, senior land director at Gleeson Homes, addressed the meeting, following which the application was approved with little fuss, one member noting that although “we’ve had 20 objections, there aren’t 20 people in the room”. There were no objections from statutory consultees.

Cllr Kevin Shaw added that “schemes like this are needed if we as a council are to meet our housing targets”.

Gleeson’s plans can be viewed on the DCC planning portal with the reference DM/22/02238/FPA.
