Pioneer to expand Wilton Centre by 150,000 sq ft
The Teesside Freeport development will add 16 units, a two-storey incubator building, and five offices to its footprint, to meet market demand for lab space.
Units will range from 200-20,000 sq ft, catering to one-bench labs to small-scale manufacturing and pilot plants.
The R&D site is one of the largest in Europe and is set within a 75-acre park in the North East Process Industry Cluster.
Tenants are predominantly in the bio-manufacturing, bio-pharmaceuticals, and circular economy industries, including Fujifilm and the Centre for Process Innovation.
Steve Duffied, site director at Wilton Centre, said: “This is great news for Teesside, Wilton Centre and the scientists, researchers and support staff who will hopefully be working here in the not-too-distant future.
“Wilton Centre is celebrating its fiftieth birthday this year and while we’re looking back at the great times here, we’re also looking forward to a very exciting future as these plans become reality.”
Executive director of Pioneer, Toby Reid said: “Companies at Wilton Centre are tackling a range of issues, from difficult-to-recycle materials to removing fossil fuels from manufacturing processes.
“The new freeport development will allow more companies like these to get started and scale their processes in purpose-built facilities, creating jobs and ultimately positively impacting the health of our planet.”
