Morgan Sindall puts down Newcastle roots
Previously based at Rotterdam House, the contractor has signed a 10-year lease with Praxis at the refurbished No.1 St James Gate.
Close to Newcastle’s main railway station, the revamped building has an EPC A rating.
MS occupies 3,500 sq ft to service its work across the North East and Cumbria, following a relocation from the Regus space at Rotterdam House on the Quayside. The office takes up three quarters of Level 7 of St James Place.
Main Allen Property Consultancy represented Morgan Sindall, with Savills’ Newcastle office working for the landlord. Fit out was undertaken by The DL Company.
Morgan Sindall’s North East and Cumbria operation has created 40 new jobs within the business.
Current projects onsite include the creation of a new £39m secondary school, Callerton Academy, in Newcastle and a £12m training centre for workforce training provider TTE Technical, part of the Middlesbrough College Group. The latter is set to be completed in the coming months.
The firm said numerous project wins will be announced later this year.
Alex Isted, Morgan Sindall’s area director for North East and Cumbria said: “It’s been a really exciting start to the year, with our appointment to a vital new school in Newcastle as well as the opening of our fantastic new office.
“Since our regional team was launched, we have been inspired by the exciting vision so many key stakeholders have for the region from local authorities to framework partners and developers.
“It’s a privilege to be part of this community and to have the opportunity to work with our partners to deliver greener, more intelligent developments that enhance the wellbeing of communities across the North East and Cumbria.”
Richard Harrison of Praxis said: “Following the comprehensive refurbishment of No.1 St James Gate, we are delighted to welcome Morgan Sindall to the building, which underlines the attention to detail we have given this project, particularly around ensuring we have delivered one of the most sustainable offices in the city centre.”
