Kier reaches Market Pavilion milestone in Blyth

Main contractor for the Northumberland town’s flagship cultural venue, the firm has completed the steel frame of a facility that will house a cinema and events space.

A crucial part of the £90m Energising Blyth investment programme, the Market Pavilion will provide residents with a new events space for cultural activities and creative learning as well as a café, and three cinema screens.

Dan Doherty, regional director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “Our highly skilled workforce is adept at supporting many of our clients ambitions to revitalise towns and cities. This state-of-the-art cinema and events venue will be a significant addition to the Blyth community, providing both social and economic benefits that will enhance the town centre for years to come.”

FaulknerBroswns is the architect of the project. The events space at the cultural hub will have a capacity of 200.

Cllr Richard Wearmouth, cabinet member for supporting business and opportunities at Northumberland County Council, said: “The regeneration of Blyth continues to gather pace and we’re delighted to see this flagship project taking shape in the town centre.”

The Market Pavilion, as part of the Energising Blyth programme, is funded through UK government, county council and North East Combined Authority backing, with support from other partners.
