Construction begins on £15m pool complex for Eston

Willmott Dixon has been appointed by Redcar & Cleveland Council to develop the leisure centre, which will have a 25m pool, learner pool, changing facilities and a 150-seat spectator gallery.

Operated by Everyone Active, the centre is due to open in 2026.

The project received funding from central government, R&C Council, and the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority.

Willmott Dixon is active in other areas of the Tees Valley, updating Darlington Station’s entrance as part of Network Rail’s £140m plan to deliver extra capacity and better facilities.

The developer also worked on the Hopetown Darlington tourist attraction and Stockton’s Globe Theatre, one of the North East’s largest live entertainment venues.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “We’re continuing to drive forward the transformative, large-scale projects of the future for the good of jobs and the economy.”
