Castle joins Culture House team
Main contractor Kier has tasked the Hebburn-based firm with supplying all mechanical, electrical and public health services at the 72,000 sq ft Sunderland development.
Along with installing a 538 sq ft photovoltaic system, Castle will implement other MEP installations, including an energy-efficient VRF air conditioning system, providing heating and cooling throughout.
Culture House will feature exhibition, learning and community spaces. Led by Sunderland City Council, its overarching goal is to recognise the city’s heritage, while inspiring a passion for learning and knowledge, offering opportunities to try new technologies.
With its headquarters in Hebburn, South Tyneside and offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Teesside, Castle, which has a secured turnover of £65m for 2024, offers a wide range of engineering, and contracting services covering all aspects of construction, mechanical, public health, renewable and electrical engineering.
Managing director Andrew Dawson said: “Castle has watched in admiration at the rapid and highly impressive regeneration taking place in Sunderland city centre. The council and stakeholders have a clear vision for the future of the city and Culture House is clearly very much part of it.
“We are delighted to have been awarded the contract by Kier and pleased to play our part in the transformation that is taking place.”
Work started in September last year on the £25m project.
Steve Lynn, operations director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “Culture House will be a vibrant and dynamic space for local residents and visitors, and we are pleased to be working with Castle once again to deliver an exciting project that will help to transform Sunderland city centre.”
