Silverstone and Tri Construction deliver for Hitachi
The project manager and contractor have completed a 6,500 sq ft two-storey office extension at the industrial giant’s Hebburn site, securing further work in the process.
The steel frame internal extension at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK’s Hebburn headquarters includes office space, locker rooms, changing facilities, showers and a graphics print and lamination room.
Involved in the project’s professional team were Seymour Architecture, structural engineer SHED, M&E expert JCP, and Blue Keep Building Control.
Silverstone said that the development has “significantly raised the quality and range of amenities for HCMUK’s office and production employees and created extra capacity for expansion”.
Silverstone was project manager and contract administrator and brought Tri Construction on board as main contractor following a competitive tender process.
HCMUK has now instructed Silverstone to carry out further projects including a heating refurbishment of a 65,000 sq ft unit it has recently acquired and other infrastructure upgrading works around its 12-acre site.
The HCMUK business unit, which was established more than 50 years ago, recently acquired a 4.7-acre site adjacent to its head office at Monkton Business Park to expand its offices and Hitachi Connected Technology production facilities.
Phil Bone, director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, said: “Working with such a respected, global brand is a privilege and we’re excited that our completed work for HCMUK has impressed and led on to us being appointed on further projects.”
Dave Roberts, chief executive at HCMUK said: “Silverstone has done a great job of delivering an industry-leading facility that will improve our capacity and productivity, as well as enhancing the welfare of our team.
“The main challenge was constructing the extension safely and efficiently, whilst remaining fully operational but I’m pleased to say we achieved that, thanks to strong collaboration between all parties involved. We are continuing our partnership with Silverstone to deliver the next key pieces of the jigsaw that will create a world-class facility here in Hebburn.”
